Together. In the same direction. As one. In unison. A good skincare routine works much like a rowing team. You are the coxwain, you call the shots.
The amount of products you need on your team is individual. Whether it's 5, 7, or 9- the main thing is that all your products are doing their part to keep your skin moving forward to its healthiest state.
Many good routines consist of your regular crew- what you depend on daily- as well as additional products that are used to up your skincare game. Start with your go-to products- cleanser, mist, moisturizer, SPF. Then you can add a step or change a step depending on what your skin needs. For instance a retinol or acid based exfoliant are products you can add if your skin's texture feels a little rough and you need to accelerate cell turnover (A).
The fun part is when your team is managed properly you can visibly see the results. If your skin gets out of sync, you need to adjust, go back to the basics, and get on track. Along the way, you can learn instinctively to reach for the products you need depending on how your skin feels that day.
The main thing is your routine doesn't need to have the same steps as the next person. Think about your goals, the amount of time and money you want to invest, and what you hope to get out of it. Start from there and build the routine that suits you. And remember, consistency is key!
